L 1-2 AWAY Fri, Sep 6, 7:15pm @ QO

Fun Fact #1: There have been 25 girls 4A State Champions Since MCPS moved girls soccer to play in the fall (yes, we played in the Spring).

Fun Fact #2: 13 of those champions have come from MCPS.

Fun Fact #3: All of those state champions play in the same region- 4A West- where there are no easy games.

That proved to be true once again in the season opening match between the Churchill Bulldogs and Quince Orchard Cougars. Quince Orchard controlled much of the play in the 1st half and led 2-0 at halftime. The Bulldogs played much better in the 2nd half and made the game interesting with 4 minutes remaining on a goal by Ruby Siegal assisted by Dani Huang. Quince Orchard held on for a hard fought 2-1 victory.

L 0-3 HOME Tue, Sep 10, 7:00pm vs Oakdale

The Bulldogs had another frustrating loss on Tuesday night.  Despite their advantage in possession, shots, and shots on goal- they suffered their second loss of the season, 3-0, against the Oakdale Bears.

W 2-0 AWAY Thu, Sep 12, 7:00pm @ Urbana

The Bulldogs earned their 1st victory of the season in a match against Urbana.  After a slow start in the 1st half, where the Urbana goalie made 7 saves, the team increased their pressure which led to goals by Sofía Noguera and Sofia Grundy to earn the victory for the Bulldogs.

W 2-0 HOME Wed, Sep 18, 7:15pm vs RM

The Bulldogs took an early lead against RM with a goal by Noor Neama assisted by KC Chew in the opening minutes of the game. While the Rockets kept the game close for a majority of the rest of the game, another assist by KC Chew for a goal by Sydney Stern capped the 2-0 victory.

W 2-0 HOME Sat, Sep 21, 12:00pm vs Clarksburg

Despite missing 4 starters, the Bulldogs recorded their third consecutive 2-0 shutout with a win against the Clarksburg Coyotes.

Katelin Chew scored both goals for the Bulldogs and was assisted by Dani Huang and Sofía Noguera. A strong defensive effort was led by Ruby Siegal, Laila Foose, Lexi O’Brien, and Dani Huang.

W 1-0 AWAY Mon, Sep 23, 7:15pm @ BCC

The Bulldogs recorded their 4th consecutive shutout in an impressive 1-0 victory against BCC, an always fierce division opponent. The game’s lone goal was scored by Noor Neama and assisted by Sofia Grundy. This was the team’s best defensive performance of the season.

L 1-4 AWAY Wed, Sep 25, 7:15pm @ WJ

Keeper Sarah Galbraith recorded 9 saves on this rainy night, and Gaia Gross assisted by Char Primich scored the Bulldogs’ goal, but the Wildcats prevailed.

L 0-1 OT AWAY Mon, Oct 7, 7:15pm @ Blair

Although outnumbering 15 to 4 in shots on goal, the Bulldogs lost in OT off a Blazers’ free kick in dangerous territory.

W 1-0 AWAY Thu, Oct 10, 7:15pm @ Wootton

Excellent passing and defensive hustle held the Patriots off, and a goal by Sydney Mednik assisted by Sydney Stern led the Bulldogs to victory.

W 5-0 AWAY Mon, Oct 14, 5:15pm @ Einstein

In a total team effort, the Bulldogs beat the Titans. Sofia Grundy scored the first goal off a cross by Angie Tukey in the first half and also the second goal with a free kick from 35 yards out. Noor Neama fired a shot for the Bulldog’s third goal, and Gaia Gross hit the upper right corner for the fourth goal assisted by Lexi O’Brien, who then scored the final goal assisted by Char Primich.

L 0-1 HOME Wed, Oct 16, 7:15pm vs Whitman

The Bulldogs played tough and even against the defending 3-time state champions with each team logging 50% possession. Though the Vikings came into the night averaging almost 4 goals a game, the Bulldogs held them to just one led by stellar defense from Aida Sadjadpour, Sofia Grundy, and Ruby Siegal who played the back line the whole game along with fantastic goal keeping by Sarah Galbraith.

W 4-1 HOME Fri, Oct 18, 7:15pm vs Sherwood SENIOR NIGHT

A wonderful night celebrating our Seniors — Midfielder Natalie Gumagay, Forward Sofía Noguera, Defenders Lexi O’Brien and Caroline Rilette, Goal Keepers Sarah Gailbraith and Cecila Bernstein, and Captains Aida Sadjadpour and Ruby Siegal.

W 8-0 AWAY Wed, Oct 23, 5:30pm @ Gaithersburg Regional Quarterfinal

A fun night for Bulldog fans with lots of connections and tremendous teamwork. Kayla Wiederhorn opens the scoring off a thread-the-needle assist between two defenders by Sofía Noguera. Next, a give-and-go from Sofía Noguera to Sydney Mednik back to Sofía Noguera, who gets fouled in the box, allows Lexi O’Brien to convert on the penalty kick. Angie Tukey, then gets a long goalie deflection, finds Ruby Siegal, who crosses it into the box where Sofia Grundy scores with a dramatic bicycle kick. To close out the first half, Gaia Gross wins the ball in the air, where Char Primich is able to one-touch lead pass to Sydney Stern who has a 1v1 with the goalie and scores. The Bulldogs continued there momentum in the second half with Noor Neama crossing to Lexi O’Brien for her second goal of the night. Sofía Noguera earns her second assist of the night after winning the ball and finding a wide open Laila Foose on the wing who slots it in near post. Then the Sydney duo of Mednik to Stern has back to back goals earning Sydney Mednik two assists and Sydney Stern a hat trick to end the game.
