W 68-20 HOME Fri, Dec 6, 7:15pm vs Einstein

Bulldogs open their season with a win vs the traveling Titans of Einstein. The team demonstrated team play and energy from the tip on, setting a commanding lead early in the first quarter. The team moved the ball and found each other throughout the game – having 20 assists for their 26 total field goals.

Despite only being able to play one quarter, freshman Maria Knowlton led all scorers with 13 points. Junior Mena Hemphill followed with both sharp shooting from the 3 and points inside with 10. Freshman Ashley King added in 9 points.

It was the battle of the Kings on the boards – Ashley with 9 rebounds, and Maggie with 5.

Ashley King’s savvy vision shone through her team-high 8 assists. Senior Ruby Siegal added an impressive 4 assists as well.

The defensive tempo was set in the first quarter, and maintained throughout. All players came out with strong effort and solid rotations in the zone. Ruby, Mena, Maria, and Ashley all had 4 steals!

The Bulldogs will take on Thomas Johnson of Frederick County on Tuesday – let’s roll!

The Dawgs kept rolling Tuesday night against visiting Thomas Johnson, with a 62-24 win. The Dawgs began the game with great defensive intensity, keeping TJ often in the back court, with teamwork and intensity on the press. The defensive effort remained present throughout the game, with Ashley King leading with 7 steals, Mena Hemphill 5, and Maria Knowlton 3. The Dawgs looked to share the rock on offense, and had an impressive amount of assists for the 2nd game in a row. Ashley led with 5 assists, Ruby Siegal 4, and Maria and Netah Shekel with 3. Ashley led all scorers with 16 points, Aysha Gilmetdinova with 12, Mena 8, and Ruby and Maria each added 6. The Dawgs go on the road for the first time this season, Thursday at Sherwood.

The Dawgs keep it rolling with a win on the road vs Sherwood, 51-40. Dawgs’ offense continues to be centered on ball movement and selfless play, with 13 assists on 18 buckets. Ruby Siegal had 8 of the 13!

Ashley King led with 15 points, Maria Knowlton with 11, Aysha Gilmetdinova recorded her first career double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds (and 4 blocks!), and Mena Hemphill with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

The Dawgs hit from downtown throughout the night, recording 6 3-pointers!

The Bulldogs continue their streak by defeating the Blazers at Blair on Monday night. Ashley led with 9 points, Maria and Aysha both with 7, and Ruby with 6. Ashley looked for her teammates throughout the night, and recorded 6 assists. Maggie and Aysha battled on the boards, each with 6 rebounds. On the defensive end, Maria provided the spark the Bulldogs needed with 6 steals. While it was not the Bulldogs’ best team shooting performance, Sydney’s late game corner swish came just at the right time!

The Girls Basketball team stretched their season record to 5 & 0 with a convincing 54-32 win over QO on Wednesday evening.  Trailing by 1 early in the second half, the lady Dawgs surged to a game closing 34-11 run to win going away.  Freshman Ashley King led all scorers with 20 points, 17 coming in the second half.  She also contributed 6 Rebounds, 3 Assists and 3 Steals.  Junior Mena Hemphill added 15 points and 7 Rebounds and Freshman Maria Knowlton added 7 points, 3 Assists and 6 Steals.  The Dawgs hit from beyond the arc with 6 3-pointers – with Ashley sinking 3, while Mena, Maria and Senior Ruby Siegal had 1 apiece.  Next up is rival Wootton Friday at 5:30pm at Churchill.

W 58-26 HOME Fri, Dec 20, 5:30pm vs Wootton division game followed by #10 Alis Freeman jersey retirement

The Churchill girls raced to a 25-4 1st quarter lead against a shorthanded Wootton squad and cruised to a 58-26 win. The Lady Bulldogs shared the ball all night dishing out 17 assists. Defense was ever present garnering 20 steals, forcing 29 turnovers and limiting the Patriots to 22% from the floor. Key performers include Ashley King with 12 pts and 6 assists. Ruby Siegal had 10 pts, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Maria Knowlton led Churchill with 5 steals to go along with her 9 pts. Aysha Gilmetdinova just missed another double-double with 12 pts and 9 rebounds. Next up is the All About the Girls Holiday Hoops Tournament where the Dawgs open up with Huntingtown on Friday December 27.

W 58-24 | W 51-9 Holiday Tournament Dec 27-28 All About the Girls Holiday Hoops Tournament, Baltimore

The Girls Basketball Team stretched their season record to a perfect 8 & 0 over the Christmas Break, winning the “All About the Girls Holiday Hoops Tourney” in Baltimore. The Lady Dawgs defeated Huntingtown 58-24 and then cruised past Fallston in the Championship game 51-9. Freshman Ashley King, led the way with 37 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Ashley was named the Tourney MVP.  Junior Captain Mena Hemphill added 29 points, 16 rebounds, 7 steals and 7 blocks, recording a double-double against Huntingtown and leading that game (with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 steals!). Senior Captain Ruby Siegal led the defensive effort with an outstanding performance at that end of the court while also garnering 10 rebounds and team highs of 11 assists and 9 steals. Freshman Aysha Gilmetdinova chipped in with 14 points. The team returns to MoCo and Division play with their next game at Whitman Friday at 5:30pm.

L 44-56 AWAY Fri, Jan 10, 5:30pm @ BCC division game

The young Lady Bulldogs returned from the long layoff and fell for the first time this season to an experienced BCC squad this past Friday. The Bulldogs started strong and held a 6-point halftime lead but eventually fell 56-44. The team played a strong game with tremendous effort, edging the Barons in most of the team stat categories but couldn’t overcome a poor shooting night, particularly in the second half. Freshman Aysha Gilmetdinova led the Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting, while Freshman Ashley King added 11 points and a team high 4 assists. Senior Ruby Siegal had a strong overall game with 7 points, and team highs with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Lady Bulldogs Basketball team upped their record to 9 & 1 with an impressive hard fought 63-55 win over a highly regarded Walter Johnson squad on Tuesday night. The Dawgs started fast and were in the lead for most of the game as they fought off numerous challenges from the Wildcats. Junior Captain Mena Hemphill had an exceptional performance with game highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman sensation Ashley King added 19 points and a game high 6 assists. Freshman Maria Knowlton contributed 12 points, and Senior Captain Ruby Siegal played another great overall floor game including a game high 7 steals.

The Dawgs picked up a road win Friday night, 65-24 vs Northwest. The Dawgs started off with multiple back court steals, and turned their defense into offense. Exciting transition drives and finishes put the Dawgs up early, and they didn’t look back.

The Bulldogs had a great night from downtown; Ruby Siegal and Netah Shekel each splashed 3 3-pointers, and Ashley King added 1 for 7 total as a team.

Tonight’s scoring leaders were Ruby Siegal with 17, Netah Shekel 15, Ashley King 12, and Maria Knowlton 9.

After a big division win Tuesday vs WJ and the W vs Northwest, the Dawgs are right back at it vs Poolesville!

The Dawgs dominated the boards with a 46-24 margin and shot an outstanding 94% from the charity stripe. Freshman Ashley King led the way with 15 pts, 3 assists and 3 steals. Freshman Aysha Gilmetdinova had another double-double with 13 pts, 12 rebounds and a game high 4 steals as did Junior Mena Hemphill with 11 pts, and a game high 13 caroms. Senior Ruby Siegal had 7 pts and 2 steals to go along with a game high 5 assists. Next game is the RM Rockets on Tuesday.

In the game against Whitman, Mena (15) and Aysha (11) continued their battle on the boards. Ashley led on offense, with 15 pts, Mena 8 and Aysha 7. Aysha found her teammates well, leading with 3 assists. Despite the loss, the Dawgs showed fight and effort until the end of the game. Looking to bounce back tonight!

Just 24 hours after a tough loss to Whitman, the Bulldogs bounced back with an overpowering 66-18 win over Magruder, raising their record to 12 & 2 on the season. Senior Ruby Siegal led the way flirting with a triple-double with 14 pts on 75% shooting and 8 assists and 7 steals. Junior Mena Hemphill added 14 points with 12 rebounds, her second double-double in 3 games. Freshman Netah Shekel hit 3 of 4 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Next up, the Bulldogs travel to Gaithersburg on Tuesday.

Injuries left the Churchill Girls Basketball team with only 2 starters available at the end of the game but they were still able to close out a 45-30 win at Gaithersburg. Team defense was stellar through the game. Junior Mena Hemphill had a big double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Ruby Siegal played a strong overall game garnering 6 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Freshmen Maria Knowlton and Aysha Gilmetdinova chipped in 7 and 6 points, respectively. The team stays on the road heading to Damascus Friday night.

W 39-32 AWAY Fri, Jan 31, 7:15pm @ Damascus

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start trailing Damascus 6-0 before going on a dominating 39-20 run and a hard fought 39-32 victory. The Dawgs dominated the boards with a 40-22 advantage. Freshman Aysha Gilmetdinova added another double-double to her resume with 12 points and 11 boards. Junior Mena Hemphill added 7 points and 9 rebounds along with 3 assists. Freshman Maria Knowlton added 6 pts and 7 rebounds while Senior Ruby Siegal had 5 rebounds and 3 assists to go along with her 6 points. Up next is a demanding 3-game week for the 14 & 2 Bulldogs, starting with a home game Monday with the RM Rockets.

Freshman Ashley went for 14 points and 2 assists, and Junior Mena Hemphill added 9 rebounds while freshman Netah Shekel chipped in with 8 points. The Lady Dawgs now stand at 15 & 2 with a trip to Wootton tomorrow night.

Defense was tenacious forcing 21 TO’s and garnering 14 steals. Junior Mena Hemphill had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Freshman Maria Knowlton had 15 points and 3 steals. Freshman Ashley King sank 4 treys for the second straight game, adding 14 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Senior Ruby Siegal led the defensive tempo and had 5 assists and 4 steals. The Churchill Girls Basketball team rallied from a 7 point deficit with 4 minutes to go Friday night, finishing on an 11-0 run to down a highly regarded Whitman squad 47-43. With their Senior Captain Ruby Siegal home ill, the Dawgs began the game with a rarity, starting the game with 4 freshman for likely the first time in program history. Junior Mena Hemphill and Freshmen Ashley King and Maria Knowlton all led the way with 11 points. Mena added 10 rebounds, while Maria had 3 huge steals. Freshman Aysha Gilmetdinova added 6 points along with her 10 rebounds. The Dawgs ran their record to 17 & 2 and await the BCC Barons next Friday night at Churchill in another much anticipated matchup.
